JAMMU, Dec 5: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has designated the offices of the Senior Superintendents of Police within the State Investigation Agency (SIA) as police stations for the purpose of registering and investigating cases.
According to a notification from the Union Territory’s Home Department, the offices of SSP, SIA, Kashmir and SSP, SIA, Jammu have been officially recognized as police stations for SIA Kashmir and SIA Jammu, enabling them to carry out registration and investigation of cases within their respective territorial jurisdictions of Kashmir and Jammu.
This notification was issued on November 19, 2024, under Section 2(1) (U) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
The J & K administration established the SIA on November 01, 2021, to facilitate prompt and efficient investigation and prosecution of cases related to militancy.
The organization also serves as a central coordinating agency with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other national agencies.
In its initial directive regarding the establishment of the SIA in 2021, the Home Department indicated that the SIA would have the authority to independently register First Information Reports (FIRs). The order mandated that all officers overseeing police stations must immediately notify the SIA upon registration of any cases related to terrorism, as well as any cases with potential terrorism links that arise during investigations.
