NEW DELHI, Feb 14: The government has established guidelines for securing import licenses for premium frozen duck meat in India.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a trade notice stating that importers can obtain authorization from the directorate.
As part of the requirements, importers must provide a declaration confirming that the imported products are intended for use in hotels rated 3 stars and above, as specified by the Ministry of Tourism, and must list potential eligible establishments.
Hotels rated 3 stars and higher, as identified by the ministry, are permitted to import this meat directly without the need for prior authorization.
Under the new regulations, importers acting as distributors, aggregators, or suppliers must maintain thorough records of all supplies made to 3-star and above hotels.
To obtain subsequent import authorization, these importers will need to provide proof of their supplies to such hotels, including copies of GST invoices corresponding to previous authorizations.
The DGFT has indicated that failure to comply with these regulations may lead to penalties as per applicable laws.
India primarily imports this meat from Malaysia and Thailand, with imports valued at USD 0.3 million between April and November of this fiscal year, a decline from USD 0.49 million in 2023-24. (PTI)
