In a statement to reporters in Srinagar, Karra expressed that the Government currently lacks the power to fulfill the people’s expectations. “Without restoring statehood, the Government and its representation fall short. Once statehood is reinstated, we can tackle all the issues facing the populace,” he stated.
The JKPCC Chief remarked that developmental initiatives cannot be fully realized without statehood. “All these programs hinge on having the necessary authority. My ongoing effort and insistence have focused on restoring statehood. When I first raised this matter, it was not widely discussed, but now there is consensus that statehood must be prioritized. I have supported statehood well ahead of the elections,” he continued.
Karra condemned the unilateral decisions made without input from elected representatives, labeling them as a breach of democratic principles. “Elected representatives embody the sentiments, emotions, and aspirations of the people. Their involvement is crucial for translating these into effective policies. The previous trend of unilateral decision-making must come to an end,” he remarked.
The Congress president called on the administration, bureaucrats, and officials to recognize the role of an elected Government. “They need to acknowledge that elected representatives are in place, and their contribution to governance is vital,” he added.
Addressing the difficulties encountered by the public, such as power shortages, scarcity of food grains, and increasing unemployment, Karra attributed these challenges to the lack of an elected government over the past decade.
“What we are experiencing today is the result of 10 years without an elected government since 2014. To address these challenges, we require authority, which can only come with statehood. Until statehood is reinstated, the aspirations of the people will remain unfulfilled,” he concluded.
