According to officials, the updated guidelines will allow the CBI to recruit an increased number of SPs from non-police backgrounds, fostering a more multidisciplinary agency with improved financial expertise. The newly established regulations indicate that half of the superintendent-level vacancies in the CBI will be filled by officers on deputation, while the remainder will be filled through promotions.
The new rules enable the recruitment of officers from the Indian Police Service, All India Services, Central Police Organizations, Group ‘A’ Services of the Central Government, and police organizations from States or Union Territories by way of deputation to the CBI. It specifies that the number of officers from services other than the Indian Police Service appointed to the designated deputation vacancies shall not exceed 18.
Previously, the regulations permitted 20 percent of the 75 deputation positions to be occupied by officers outside the IPS, equating to 15 posts, with the rest filled by promotion. The new provisions also outline that the typical duration of deputation, including any previous service in another ex-cadre post in the same or different Central Government department, should not exceed four years.
Furthermore, the maximum age limit for appointed candidates by deputation cannot surpass 56 years as of the application deadline, according to the guidelines. (Agencies)
