NEW DELHI, Feb 19: The government has relaxed import regulations for cars categorized as “vintage motor vehicles” specifically for actual users, as announced in a recent notification.
Previously, only cars manufactured before January 1, 1950 were allowed for import by these users.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade stated in the notification that “Cars classified as ‘vintage motor vehicles’ are now freely importable by actual users.”
Nonetheless, cars that are used on public roads will still need to comply with the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.
“The classification of vintage motor vehicles has been updated to be consistent with the central motor vehicles rules of 1989, as amended,” it added. (PTI)
