Srinagar, Mar 1: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that a shadow Cabinet is unnecessary as the elected Government is committed to delivering on its promises to the citizens.
While speaking to reporters after expressing condolences to Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and National Conference MLA Hasnain Masoodi, the Chief Minister reassured that his Government is dedicated to fulfilling the commitments made to the people of J&K.

“There is no requirement for a shadow. We have assured the public of meeting their expectations, and we are committed to that promise,” he said.
Omar further remarked that shadow Cabinets are not a part of democratic governance.
“Such a Cabinet does not exist in our country. We have one Cabinet only. A shadow cabinet is not needed. The BJP has had its turn in the past, and now it is time for an elected Government to serve the populace. We will strive to meet all the promises made to the people of J&K,” he emphasized.
Discussing his meeting to assess the readiness for the holy month of Ramadan, the Chief Minister mentioned that it is the duty of the Government to provide all necessary amenities to the citizens. Click here to watch the video
“We examined all departments and instructed them to guarantee comprehensive services, including power supply during Sehri and Iftar, water supply, food distribution, sanitation, and traffic management. We anticipate that the government will implement all these measures,” he stated.
Earlier in the review meeting, Omar highlighted that crucial departments under pressure need to efficiently provide services—especially regarding power supply, which must be prioritized.
“The public expects us to ensure that there are no electrical outages during Sehri and Iftar. Any necessary maintenance should be well-scheduled, and interruptions could be carried out during daylight hours according to a proper timetable. Any required maintenance work should also be conducted during the day,” he directed.
He urged officials to promptly resolve system issues and fix faulty distribution transformers (DTs) to prevent interruptions.
Concerning water supply, the Chief Minister remarked that the recent snowfall and rainfall had improved conditions but emphasized the importance of delivering adequate drinking water to homes.
“By God’s grace, the recent rains over the last few days have been advantageous in this aspect,” he added.
“Our collective aim should be to ensure a smooth and trouble-free Ramadan for everyone. It is our responsibility to implement all necessary preparations,” he concluded.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Education Shantamanu, Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, all Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, Inspector Generals of Police Kashmir and Jammu, Deputy Commissioners, Commissioner JMC, MDs of KPDCL/JPDCL, and heads of key departments including Joint Director SMC.
