NEW DELHI, Jan 3: A number of esteemed dignitaries gathered to honor former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a prayer meeting held at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj.
Among the prominent leaders present at the prayer gathering (Kirtan and Antim Ardas) were Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Other attendees included former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur, Punjab assembly Opposition leader Pratap Bajwa, and former deputy chairperson of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
Prominent Congress figures such as Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, and former Union ministers Salman Khurshid and Ajay Maken, along with Sukhjinder Randhawa, were also in attendance. BJP representatives Praneet Kaur and Manjinder Singh Sirsa were also present.
Previously, former vice-president Hamid Ansari, Sonia Gandhi, and Kharge had participated in the ‘Akhand Path’ at the residence of the late prime minister on Friday.
Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, recited a ‘shabad (verse)’ from the Sikh holy scriptures during the ‘Akhand path (continuous recitation of Guru Granth Sahib)’ at their home.
Singh served as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and played a key role in spearheading India’s economic liberalization and reform initiatives. (Agencies)
