New Delhi, January 6: Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur have been given a break for the Indian women’s upcoming three-match home ODI series against Ireland, as announced by the BCCI on Monday.
Opener Smriti Mandhana will take the helm for the series, set to commence on January 10 in Rajkot, with Harmanpreet unavailable.
Harmanpreet sustained a knee injury during last month’s home series against the West Indies, which sidelined her from the final two T20 matches before she returned to participate in three ODIs.
Previously, the 35-year-old had faced a neck injury during her match against Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Dubai last October.
Top fast bowler Renuka was named player of the series in the one-dayers against the West Indies after claiming 10 wickets across three games.
Given her history of back stress fractures, resting her for the Ireland series may be a strategic decision to manage her workload.
India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Ireland includes: Smriti Mandhana (C), Deepti Sharma (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Uma Chetry (wk), Richa Ghosh (wk), Tejal Hasabnis, Raghvi Bist, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Tanuja Kanwer, Titas Sadhu, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare.
Schedule (All matches in Rajkot, starting at 11 AM): 1st ODI: January 10, 2nd ODI: January 12, 3rd ODI: January 15. (PTI)
