New Delhi, Jan 6: Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur have been granted rest for India’s upcoming three-match home ODI series against Ireland, as announced by the BCCI on Monday.
In Harmanpreet’s absence, opener Smriti Mandhana will take charge of the team beginning January 10 in Rajkot.
Harmanpreet experienced a knee injury during the recent home series against the West Indies, which sidelined her for the last two T20Is before she returned for three ODIs.
Prior to this, the 35-year-old had dealt with a neck injury incurred during the Women’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Dubai last October.
Renuka, who was named player of the series in the one-dayers against the West Indies after claiming 10 wickets across three matches, is also being rested. This decision may help manage her workload due to previous issues with a stress fracture in her back.
The Indian squad for the ODI series against Ireland includes: Smriti Mandhana (C), Deepti Sharma (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Uma Chetry (wk), Richa Ghosh (wk), Tejal Hasabnis, Raghvi Bist, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Tanuja Kanwer, Titas Sadhu, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare.
Match Schedule (All fixtures in Rajkot, starting at 11 AM): 1st ODI: January 10, 2nd ODI: January 12, 3rd ODI: January 15. (PTI)
