CHENNAI, Jan 4: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) announced on Saturday that 26% of its total domestic wholesale volumes were transported via rail-freight in 2024, totaling 156,724 units. This shift has led to a reduction of 18,352 tons of CO2 emissions during the year by enhancing the use of rail freight over road freight in its logistics operations, including the complete rail dispatches to the North-East region of India.
Tarun Garg, HMIL’s Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability across all operations, including manufacturing, dispatch, sales, and after-sales support. He stated, “By leveraging the extensive Indian Railways network to deliver Hyundai vehicles from our Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai to various locations throughout India, we have successfully prevented 18,352 tons of CO2 emissions while dispatching 156,724 units this year.”
As the Union Government continues to enhance rail infrastructure with dedicated freight corridors and modern, energy-efficient rolling stock for quicker goods movement, HMIL is dedicated to optimizing logistics through rail freight, leading to long-term emission reductions, Mr. Garg noted. He added that between 2021 and 2024, HMIL had transported a total of 537,499 units via rail, effectively preventing 63,452 tons of CO2 emissions. (UNI)
