NEW DELHI, Dec 30: On Monday, the Income Tax department announced that it will not utilize Digi Yatra data as a means to identify tax evaders.
Refuting claims circulating on X, the I-T department clarified, “At present, the @IncomeTaxIndia department has no plans to use Digi Yatra data for this purpose.”
Digi Yatra, which relies on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), facilitates a contactless and seamless experience for passengers at airport checkpoints.
The information shared by passengers for the Digi Yatra service is stored in an encrypted form. Users must register their details on the Digi Yatra app, which involves Aadhaar-based verification and a self-image capture. Following this, passengers need to scan their boarding passes, which allows their credentials to be shared with the airport.
Digi Yatra is operated by the Digi Yatra Foundation, and its stakeholders include the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL), and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
