JAMMU, Dec 13: The inaugural North India Karate Championship 2024-25 kicked off today at the Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Sports Stadium in Jammu. This event, organized by the Yudansha Ryu Ashi-te Karate-Do Association, Jammu and Kashmir, and affiliated with the Traditional Karate-Do Association of Jammu and Kashmir, has received approval from the Karate Association of India.
Athletes from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh have gathered to display their karate skills.
The ceremony was graced by several notable figures, including the chief guest, Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG Jammu. Other distinguished attendees included Tajinder Singh, Deputy Commandant, Jammu 84 Battalion; Rajinder Digra, CEO MC, DIO Udhampur; Dr. Suresh Ajay Magotra; Sumeet Sharma, President of the Press Club of Udhampur; and Ritika Jamwal, Senior Judo Coach and Manager of the Indoor Sports Complex Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
A total of 380 contestants are registered for this championship, with 167 competitors participating on the first day. The event aims to provide a venue for athletes to exhibit their talents while promoting the core values of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and discipline central to karate.
Shihan Naresh Chander, President of the organizing committee, stressed that karate encompasses not only physical prowess but also mental discipline and the responsible application of strength.
The organizing committee, which includes Shihan Naresh Chander (President, TKAJK), Shihan Umesh Rekhi (General Secretary, TKAJK), Shashi Jalotra (Vice President, TKAJK), and Aaftab (Senior Vice President, TKAJK), is dedicated to advancing the sport of karate and offering both local and visiting athletes opportunities to compete and refine their skills.
