As per the notice, Para was expected to meet with Income Tax officials on December 20, but he only received the notification that day.
While the MLA from Pulwama in south Kashmir was unavailable for comments, sources close to him indicated that a representative would be present at the Income Tax office on Monday.
The notice issued is under Section 131(1A) of the Income-Tax Act, which allows tax officers to request information from taxpayers even if no formal investigation is in progress.
This section permits tax authorities to ask for the submission of financial statements and documents either by the noticee directly or through an authorized representative.
Based on the information provided to the Election Commission following the assembly elections, Para reported expenses exceeding Rs 14 lakh for his campaign.
Out of this total, Rs 12 lakh was acquired from individuals, businesses, or associations in the form of loans, gifts, and donations.
According to his election affidavit, Para stated that his total movable and immovable assets were valued at over Rs 2.5 crore, which includes inherited agricultural land estimated at Rs 2 crore.
He is currently out on bail after spending two years in incarceration.
Para was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, shortly after submitting his nomination for the District Development Council elections in Pulwama.
He was granted bail by an NIA court in January 2021, but upon his release, he was arrested by the Counter Intelligence (Kashmir) unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the same allegations. (Agencies)
