NEW DELHI, Jan 11: India achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024 by adding approximately 30 GW of renewable energy capacity, marking an increase of over 113 percent from the 13.75 GW added in 2023, according to data from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
This growth is crucial as India aims to reach a renewable energy capacity of 500 GW by 2030.
To meet this ambitious target, the country must average an addition of 50 GW of renewable energy capacity annually over the next six years.
“The leap from 13.75 GW in 2023 to around 30 GW in 2024, bringing the total to nearly 218 GW, highlights India’s strong commitment to clean energy and its ongoing efforts towards a sustainable future,” stated New & Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi on X.
As per ministry data, India had a renewable energy capacity of 35.84 GW as of March 31, 2014.
Since the fiscal year 2014-15, when the NDA administration commenced, India has seen its highest renewable capacity addition of 18.48 GW in the fiscal year 2023-24.
The government aims for a consistent addition of 50 GW of renewable energy capacity each year to meet its 2030 goal of 500 GW. (PTI)
