Ahmedabad, Feb 12: On Wednesday, the cricket teams of India and England stepped onto the field for their final ODI match, adorned in green armbands to endorse the BCCI’s “Donate Organs, Save Lives” campaign.
This announcement was made by the BCCI shortly after the match began at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Both teams are wearing green arm bands to support BCCI’s initiative ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’. The initiative is led by ICC Chairman Mr. Jay Shah,” the BCCI’s statement affirmed.
This campaign was revealed by Shah on Monday.
Shah expressed on X, “During the third ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12th, we proudly launch an awareness campaign — Donate Organs, Save Lives.” “Sport has the ability to inspire, unite, and create a lasting impression beyond the playing field. Through this campaign, we encourage everyone to take action towards providing the most significant gift of all — the gift of life.
“One pledge, one decision, can save many lives. Let’s unite and make a difference!” he further remarked.
Numerous Indian players showed their support for the initiative, including Virat Kohli and vice-captain Shubman Gill.
Kohli stated in a video shared by the BCCI, “Score the ultimate century. Your organs can help others live beyond your own lifetime. Register as a donor and make every life count.”
Gill commented, “Be the captain of life. Just as a captain guides the team to victory, you can lead someone to life by pledging to donate your organs.” Other Indian cricketers supporting the campaign included batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
Iyer remarked, “One donor can save up to eight lives. Pledge today and hit a six for humanity.”
Rahul added, “Play the ultimate winning shot. Your choice to donate your organs can be a match-winning moment in someone’s life. Be a hero off the field too.” (PTI)
