DHAKA, Dec 3: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma stated on Tuesday that New Delhi is genuinely interested in establishing a consistent, stable, and constructive partnership with Bangladesh.
During a brief interaction with reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, he expressed their eagerness to collaborate with Bangladesh to achieve their common objectives in peace, security, and development.
He emphasized the extensive and diverse nature of the relationship between the two nations, clarifying that it cannot simply be narrowed down to a single issue or agenda.
Verma made these comments following his meeting with Acting Foreign Secretary Reaz Hamidullah at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after an incident involving the Bangladesh mission in Agartala on Monday.
Reports indicate that seven individuals have been detained and three police officers suspended following a mob attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, during which the premises were vandalized and the Bangladeshi national flag was forcibly taken down.
“Our relationship is broad and multifaceted, and cannot be relegated to just one issue or agenda,” remarked the Indian High Commissioner.
“We truly aim to foster a positive, stable, and constructive relationship moving forward,” he stated. “There are numerous initiatives we are undertaking.”
He noted: “We have many interdependencies, and we seek to strengthen these for mutual benefits, ensuring our cooperation serves both of our populations.”
“There have been numerous positive advancements in our relationship over the last few months, including trade, power transmission, and the supply of essential commodities, which has maintained significant positive momentum.
“We are prepared to engage with the interim government of Bangladesh and are dedicated to working together to fulfill our shared aspirations in peace, security, and development,” he added.
