Washington, Jan 7: An Indian American Dhol band has received an invitation to take part in the parade from Capitol Hill to the White House following Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president of the United States on January 20.
Shivam Dhol Tasha Pathak, a Texas-based traditional Indian drum and snare group, will showcase its lively beats and dynamic rhythms in the heart of Washington, D.C., providing a glimpse into India’s rich musical heritage during an event expected to reach millions worldwide, as stated in a media release on Monday.
This occasion is not only a significant achievement for the ensemble but also a landmark moment for the Indian community in Texas and beyond, marking the first time a vibrant, high-energy Indian drum ensemble from Texas will perform on such a prominent platform, according to the press release.
“The invitation extended to the group is a reflection of the increasing appreciation for Indian culture globally and a celebration of the strengthening cultural ties between the U.S. and India,” it noted.
Previously, the ensemble has participated in a variety of events beyond religious festivals, introducing audiences worldwide to the compelling sounds of the Dhol Tasha—a traditional drum ensemble.
Their notable performances include musical concerts, collaborations with percussionists from Africa and Japan, the Howdy Modi event, halftime shows for NBA and NHL games, and the opening ceremony of the ICC T20 World Cup.
“However, performing at the 60th Presidential Inaugural Parade represents the pinnacle of their endeavors. The group’s electrifying rhythms and unique blending of traditional Indian music with global influences make them ideally suited for this international stage,” the release remarked.
“Representing Texas, a state famous for its cultural diversity, the group also highlights the region’s role as a center for multicultural exchange,” it added. (Agencies)
