NEW DELHI, Jan 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s first private satellite constellation launched by Pixxel Space, emphasizing the remarkable skills of Indian youth.
Bengaluru-based startup Pixxel made history by launching the first private constellation of earth-imaging satellites named Firefly, marking a significant move into the growing field of hyper-spectral imaging.
“The launch of Pixxel Space’s private satellite constellation showcases the exceptional capabilities of India’s youth and reflects the expanding potential of our private sector in the space domain,” the Prime Minister noted in a post on X.
On January 14, a SpaceX rocket lifted off with three of Pixxel’s six Firefly satellites from California, USA. These satellites are the world’s highest-resolution commercial-grade hyperspectral satellites, equipped to observe Earth across more than 150 spectral bands, beneficial for various sectors, including agriculture and defense.
Post-launch, Pixxel confirmed that all three satellites have successfully deployed their solar panels, stabilized their positions, oriented towards the sun, and established flawless two-way communications.
“They’re operational, functional, and set for their next stages. Onward to realizing their full potential,” announced Pixxel Space in a post on X. (PTI)
