BENGALURU, Feb 12: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Wednesday that India is undergoing a transformative revolution, with the nation’s fighter jets, missile systems, and naval vessels not only safeguarding our borders but also garnering global attention.
This statement was made during the indigenisation event and closing ceremony of Aero India 2025.
Emphasizing the significance of incorporating domestically produced defense products within the armed forces, he asserted that national security demands nothing less than the highest standards.
“Aero India has achieved unprecedented and historic heights,” Singh stated.
Reflecting on his three days at the event, he expressed it could be summed up in three words: energy, energy, and energy. “What we witnessed in Yelahanka was a vibrant display of energy and enthusiasm, not only from Indian participants but also from international attendees. The passion shown by our entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators is truly commendable.”
Singh pointed out that India is experiencing a revolutionary shift, highlighting that the country has traditionally relied heavily on defense imports. “A decade ago, 65 to 70 percent of our defense equipment was imported,” he noted.
“Today, you might call it a resolution or even a miracle; nearly the same percentage of defense equipment is now produced domestically,” he added.
He further remarked that India stands at a pivotal moment, with its fighter jets, missile systems, and naval vessels not only protecting the country but also captivating international interest.
“We are now exporting a wide range of products, from small artillery to large platforms such as BrahMos and Akash missile systems, to numerous countries. This surge in defense exports is fostering new global partnerships,” he stated, attributing this success to the unwavering commitment and trust of all stakeholders involved.
Singh highlighted the robust defense industrial ecosystem, which includes 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings, 430 licensed firms, and around 16,000 MSMEs. He noted that the private sector is actively contributing to the goal of self-reliance, currently accounting for 21 percent of total defense production.
The government has consistently sought to eliminate uncertainties and create a competitive environment for the private sector. Ongoing policies aim to ensure that both the public and private sectors advance in defense manufacturing, he stated.
He commended the patriotism and trust shown by the armed forces in adopting domestically manufactured defense products, remarking, “Our military has fully embraced weapons and all types of wartime equipment produced in the country.”
Singh expressed confidence that India’s self-reliance campaign can only progress further through the complete satisfaction of the armed forces.
Looking at the growth of the aerospace industry, he asserted, “I can confidently say that, as we navigate this transformative era, India is positioning itself not just as a participant but as a global leader in defense innovation and aerospace technology.”
He concluded that the impact of Aero India will be enduring, noting participation from over 500 delegates from 84 countries, including foreign guests, Defense Ministers, and military leaders. He also thanked the 931 exhibitors, comprising 782 Indian entities.
With attendance from 58 Original Equipment Manufacturers and 115 global CEOs, Aero India saw its largest participation to date.
As the three business days of the 15th Aero India edition concluded on February 12, the upcoming two days will be open to the public for the aerospace showcase. (PTI)
