JAKARTA, Jan 21: In Pekalongan Regency, Central Java province, flash floods and landslides have resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people, with three individuals reported missing and 10 others sustaining injuries, according to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Tuesday.
Fadia Arafiq, the regent of Pekalongan, indicated that while multiple sub-districts faced similar challenges, Petungkriono was particularly affected.
“The heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds from Monday night through Tuesday morning led to flash floods and landslides in Petungkriono Sub-district,” stated Fadia.
Rescue operations are ongoing, although search and rescue teams are encountering access issues due to the aftermath of the disasters. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid areas near rivers.
