HYDERABAD, Jan 20: Instagram has increased its reel duration limit to three minutes. Previously, users were restricted to 90 seconds per reel on the Meta-owned short video platform.
In a video announcement, CEO Adam Mosseri stated, “You can now upload reels up to three minutes long. Historically, we allowed only 90 seconds due to our emphasis on short-form content, but we’ve heard user feedback indicating that this duration is too brief for those wanting to share more extended stories. We hope this change is beneficial.”
This update comes less than a year after Mosseri warned users against uploading lengthy videos, suggesting that content over 90 seconds could negatively affect distribution. It was surprising to hear this from him, considering the platform had only permitted 90-second videos at that time.
According to a report from The Information, at a New York event in April, Mosseri highlighted several factors that could hinder distribution, including “Reels over 90 seconds,” alongside four other features.
