RAJKOT, Jan 16: The Ireland women’s cricket team faced a 10 percent penalty on their match fees for falling short on their over-rate during the third and final ODI against India. The match concluded with India securing a staggering 304-run victory, sweeping the series entirely.
On Wednesday, India, driven by outstanding centuries from Smriti Mandhana (135) and Pratika Rawal (154), amassed an impressive total of 435/5, marking the highest ever ODI score by an Indian team, regardless of gender.
Ireland was dismissed for just 131 runs in 31.4 overs.
Match Referee G S Lakshmi from the ICC International Panel imposed the fine after Ireland was determined to be two overs behind the allotted time, factoring in time allowances.
The penalty was prompted by the on-field umpires, Kim Cotton and Akshay Totre, as well as third umpire Virender Sharma and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi.
The ICC stated, “According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, pertaining to minimum over-rate breaches, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to complete in the designated time.”
Ireland’s captain Gaby Lewis accepted the penalty and admitted to the infringement, which negated the necessity for a formal hearing, as noted by the ICC. (Agencies)
