MENDHAR/JAMMU, Jan 26: On Sunday, a forest fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district triggered the explosion of at least three landmines, according to officials.
The blaze ignited in the Behrooti forest, located just ahead of the border fence in the Mendhar sector, around 4 PM, leading to the detonation of several landmines in the vicinity.
The sound of the explosions was heard over a considerable distance; however, no damage has been reported.
The forward areas near the LoC are heavily littered with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration strategy aimed at preventing cross-border terrorism.
Efforts are currently underway to extinguish the ongoing fire, officials stated.
