JAMMU, Nov 30: The Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department in Jammu has made significant progress during the financial year 2024-25, successfully imposing penalties totaling ₹1.8 crore for GST violations associated with the movement of goods in transit.
An official statement revealed that these rigorous enforcement efforts were spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Enforcement Central, Jammu, Sonu Pargal, targeting commodities with high tax risks such as metal scrap, cement, granite/marble, TMT bars, and tobacco. This accomplishment was made possible through the guidance of Commissioner State Taxes P.K Bhat and Additional Commissioner Namrita Dogra.
The comprehensive enforcement operations conducted throughout the Jammu district involved verifying over 2.10 lakh e-way bills, reflecting a 60 percent increase. This has led to significantly improved compliance among taxpayers and transporters. Major commodities on which penalties were imposed this financial year included marble/granite, scrap goods, furniture, tobacco products, and bottled coconut oil, due to violations such as transporting goods without e-way bills, incorrect tax rate declarations, quantity mismatches, and the use of fake GSTINs.
Commissioner State Taxes commended the efforts of the Enforcement Central Jammu team in dismantling the nexus among scrap dealers in the district who were contravening GST Act provisions.
During enforcement actions, teams led by Assistant Commissioner Manpreet Kour, along with STOs Romi Jamwal, Naresh Koul, Sudhir Sharma, Sunil Gupta, and Ashwani Kumar, acknowledged compliant dealers and drivers adhering to the GST Act regulations of 2017.
The Enforcement Central Jammu team is committed to combating tax evasion and enforcing GST provisions to enhance compliance and tax revenue. Their initiatives aim not only to collect penalties but also to educate and create awareness among consumers and dealers about GST Act 2017 and its associated rules, a move that has received positive feedback from the business community. These enforcement efforts underscore the Department’s dedication to fostering a culture of accountability and compliance with GST regulations.
