JAMMU, Dec 10: In an exciting contest held in Kolkata, Jammu & Kashmir triumphed over the strong Gujarat team by 7 wickets in the Senior Women’s ODI Tournament. A deluge of rain the previous night led to a delay, forcing the match to be shortened to 39 overs for each team. J&K elected to field after winning the toss.
The bowling lineup of J&K showcased their skills, overpowering the Gujarat batting order. Sarla Devi had an exceptional outing, taking 2 wickets without any runs in her first over and finishing with impressive statistics of 4 wickets for 30 runs. Sandhya, the skilled spinner, added 2 wickets to her tally, while Bisma Hassan, Rubia Syed, and Ananya Sharma each chipped in with 1 wicket, limiting Gujarat to 176/9 in their allotted overs.
In response, the opening duo of J&K, Rudrakshi Chib (42) and Bawandeep Kaur (32), provided a robust start, sharing a 52-run partnership. Chitra Singh Jamwal remained not out with 39 runs, while Rubia Syed contributed a stellar performance with 50* off 38 balls, which featured 4 sixes and 3 fours. J&K successfully chased down the target, reaching 182/3 in 36 overs, clinching victory with 3 overs to spare.
Rubia Syed earned the Player of the Match award for her exceptional all-around performance. With this win, J&K has secured 3 victories and will be up against Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Mizoram in the upcoming matches, having recorded just one loss to Railways thus far.
