JAMMU, Jan 6: The Jammu Directorate of Tourism, in partnership with the Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC), hosted the highly anticipated Golfers’ Day Out and New Year 2025 Golf Tournament at the scenic Jammu Tawi Golf Course in Sidhra. This event aimed to promote golf as an essential tourism offering and to nurture a vibrant golfing culture in the area.
Under the leadership of Commissioner Secretary of the Tourism Department, J&K, Yasha Mudgal, the tournament attracted significant participation, with 96 golfers forming 24 four-ball teams, making for a day filled with skill, precision, and sportsmanship.
The tournament was officially opened by Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Park & Garden, Shailendra Kumar, who kicked off the first ball alongside Director of Tourism Jammu, Vikas Gupta; JTGC Secretary Manav Gupta; and Joint Director Tourism, Sunaina Sharma Mehta.
Shailendra Kumar highlighted the importance of fostering a golfing culture, especially among the youth, and noted the tournament’s role in positioning Jammu as a premier golf destination. He emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to promote sports and tourism, recognizing golf’s potential to elevate the region’s profile.
Vikas Gupta, Director of Tourism Jammu, celebrated the success of the event, noting it reinforces Jammu’s role as a key player in sports tourism. He reiterated the Department’s dedication to supporting initiatives that present Jammu as a top destination for sporting events, stressing the importance of hosting regular tournaments to draw both players and fans.
Manav Gupta, Secretary of Jammu Tawi Golf Course, expressed his commitment to establishing JTGC as a leading golfing venue. He noted the enthusiastic participation as evidence of the rising interest in golf within the region, explaining that events like this not only showcase local sporting capabilities but also significantly enhance tourism appeal.
Joint Director Tourism, Sunaina Sharma Mehta, emphasized that women’s participation in golf brings inclusivity and dynamism to the sport. She highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in boosting Jammu’s reputation as a distinguished golfing destination, enhancing its tourism attractiveness, and reflecting the Tourism Department’s steadfast commitment to leveraging golf as a cornerstone of sports tourism in the area.
Adding a special element to the event was the “Golfing Day Out Ladies Putting Competition,” aimed at promoting women’s engagement in golf. The competition saw enthusiastic participation, with Widhana Khan securing the top spot.
The event concluded with a celebratory closing ceremony where winners and top performers were awarded trophies and mementos by esteemed guests.
