Jammu, Feb 17: Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Monday that India is gaining recognition as a global leader in space technology, biotechnology, and preventive healthcare, attributing these significant accomplishments to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh, the Minister of State for Science and Technology, made these remarks during the opening of the ‘Science and Technology Expo 2025’ at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu.
“India has established its presence on the world stage, thanks to the efforts of the last decade. We currently rank third globally in terms of start-up ecosystems, boasting over 170,000 start-ups. More than 55% of patents are now filed by Indian residents, and we are home to over 5,500 of the top two percent of scientists worldwide,” he stated.
He emphasized India’s progress in key areas, asserting that the country is now acknowledged as a leader in space technology, biotechnology, and preventive healthcare.
“From the achievements of Chandrayaan to our advancements in vaccine development and genetics, India’s contributions are being recognized on a global scale,” he noted.
Highlighting India’s noteworthy scientific and technological advancements, Singh credited these successes to PM Modi’s “visionary” leadership.
The Science and Technology Expo at IIT Jammu featured innovative breakthroughs and technological developments from top academic institutions, start-ups, and industry leaders, aiming to foster entrepreneurship and a scientific mindset among students, researchers, and industry participants.
Singh praised the institute for its impressive growth and impact on education and innovation, reflecting on IIT Jammu’s transformative journey since its inception.
He reminisced about the institute’s formation, stating, “I have witnessed the evolution of IIT Jammu from its nascent stages. The establishment of this esteemed institution is a result of the BJP government’s commitment after 2014, ensuring that Jammu received its fair share of resources.” He stressed the significant progress made across various regions in the past decade, highlighting the transformative changes in the country.
Urging students and faculty to delve into new avenues and champion innovation, he remarked, “IITians are trailblazers in discovering new territories. Do not carry skepticism regarding private sector partnerships, especially with strong governmental support. Strive for uniqueness and identity through your innovations.” He also pointed out government initiatives aimed at bolstering start-ups, such as the Startup India mission and Aroma Mission, which have created equal socio-economic opportunities and attracted professionals from corporate sectors to contribute to personal and national development.
He underscored that the government is providing vast opportunities for talented youth to propel India to new heights, stating, “The ecosystem is already established, and it’s up to us to harness it for the nation’s advancement.”
