According to ACB sources, the raids targeted areas in Shalteng and Takanwari within Srinagar city, as well as locations in Pulwama district. These actions are part of an ongoing investigation into the misappropriation of public funds, with a focus on how the accused officials acquired assets that exceed their declared income sources. The inquiry aims to determine if the financial resources allocated for various developmental initiatives under the SSCP were misappropriated for personal gain.
It is noteworthy that a sum of ₹3,000 crore was allocated for 137 SSCP projects covering roads, IT services, heritage conservation, sanitation, and urban mobility. This project is part of the national Smart Cities Mission aimed at enhancing urban life in designated cities.
Investigators are examining whether the funds designated for infrastructure and development projects within the Smart City initiative were misused or diverted. The Srinagar Smart City Project, launched as part of India’s Smart Cities Mission, is intended to upgrade urban infrastructure, improve public services, and enhance residents’ living conditions.
Sources reported that the implicated officials are accused of inflating contract costs, approving substandard work, and lacking transparency in the procurement process. Additionally, the community has expressed dissatisfaction with the SSCP projects since their inception. Although these projects were reportedly initiated rapidly, the progress of completion has significantly slowed or even halted after initial roadwork and contract allocations. Many roads that were excavated for modernization have remained obstructed and unusable for extended periods. (Agencies)
