SRINAGAR, Feb 6: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) announced on Thursday the arrest of a Computer Operator within the Rural Development Department, located in Block Gund, Ganderbal, for soliciting and accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 3000.
“The ACB of Jammu and Kashmir was informed through a written complaint that Mohammad Ashraf Malik, a resident of Shahpora Ganderbal and currently serving as the Computer Operator (assigned to MIS Operation) in the Rural Development Department at Block Gund, was demanding Rs 10,000 in exchange for facilitating the upload of necessary documentation related to payment for completed work under the MGNREGA Scheme at Kulmohar Qalwat, near Masjid Sharief Chohan Mohalla, Harri Ganwan, Gund, Ganderbal,” stated a spokesperson.
It was noted that further pre-trap verification confirmed Malik’s demand for a bribe of Rs 10,000, which the complainant refused to pay. After discussions, a sum of Rs 3000 was agreed upon as the initial installment.
Following the verification of the bribe demand, FIR No 03/2025 was filed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988 at PS ACB Srinagar, and an investigation commenced.
“An investigation team was formed, leading to a successful sting operation that resulted in the apprehension of the accused public servant, Mohammad Ashraf Malik, from RDD Block Gund, Kangan, Ganderbal, as he was caught in the act of receiving the Rs 3000 bribe from the complainant,” the statement elaborated.
After fulfilling all necessary formalities, the accused Public Servant was taken into custody, with ongoing investigations into the case.
