Jammu, Feb 10: On Monday, Abdul Rahim Rather, the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, expressed optimism that all valid concerns of the newly-elected legislators would be addressed promptly.
Speaking during a house committee meeting he chaired, Rather discussed various issues raised by Legislative Assembly members, according to an official source.
Members present included BJP’s Sunil Kumar Sharma (Leader of Opposition), Surjeet Singh Slathia, Congress’s Ghulam Ahmad Mir, National Conference’s Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, as well as independent Choudhary Mohammad Akram and PDP’s Waheed Ur Rehman Para.
The Speaker assured members that their legitimate suggestions, including those concerning accommodation, would be communicated to the government for swift resolution.
He expressed confidence that these matters would be resolved promptly, the official added.
The committee deliberated on accommodation and related issues affecting MLAs during their time in the twin capitals. Through detailed discussions, legislators provided recommendations for adequate lodging in Jammu and Srinagar.
They also proposed that the government begin the process of identifying quarters for MLAs until new arrangements are finalized, ensuring they do not encounter difficulties during legislative sessions and public meetings.
