Jammu, Feb 19: On Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir branch of the BJP dismissed a recently passed resolution by the Pakistan parliament, describing it as a “desperate attempt to mislead the international community”.
The BJP urged Pakistan to cease its lies, end its state-sponsored terrorism, and address its domestic issues instead of focusing on Kashmir.
On Tuesday, Pakistan’s parliament enacted a resolution requesting New Delhi to conduct a plebiscite in Kashmir, reiterating a demand that India has long rejected.
Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam presented the resolution that emphasized Pakistan’s “steadfast moral, political, and diplomatic support” for the Kashmiri people’s “right to self-determination,” as reported by Radio Pakistan.
“We strongly condemn and reject the resolution passed by Pakistan’s parliament concerning Jammu and Kashmir. It is a desperate move to mislead the international community,” remarked J-K BJP spokesperson Gaurav Gupta.
He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always be an integral part of India, and no propaganda or unfounded resolution can alter this fact”.
“In a time when Pakistan grapples with significant political and economic turmoil, it continues to use Kashmir as a diversion to obscure its internal deficiencies. Instead of issuing false statements about Kashmir, Pakistan should concentrate on the serious human rights violations occurring in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, where fundamental rights are persistently denied,” he asserted.
The BJP representative noted that Pakistan is globally recognized as the “epicenter of militancy,” with groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen operating freely from its territory.
He added that minorities in Pakistan continue to suffer from persecution and discrimination, “yet the country has the audacity to lecture India on human rights”.
“The abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, marked a historic decision that facilitated unprecedented development in Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, the region has experienced impressive advancements, featuring rapid infrastructure development, heightened investments, record-breaking tourism, and enhanced democratic engagement,” Gupta explained.
He also pointed out that global events, such as the G20 Summit held in Srinagar, clearly illustrate how the international community acknowledges the peace and development taking place in J-K following the revocation of Article 370.
The significant voter turnout and active participation in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections from last year exemplified that local residents have unequivocally dismissed Pakistan’s false narrative and are proactively engaging in India’s democratic process, Gupta noted.
“This conveys a strong message to the world that J-K is on a path of progress, and its people are optimistic about a brighter future under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he stated.
The BJP leader reiterated India’s commitment to the peace, prosperity, and development of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the region’s inhabitants have chosen democracy and advancement over Pakistan’s propaganda.
“Pakistan’s ongoing attempts to mislead the global community will inevitably fail, just as they have in the past,” Gupta concluded.
