JAMMU, Dec 19: On Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress organized a protest march demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. This protest was a response to Shah’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha regarding B R Ambedkar, which the party deemed an “insult” to the iconic leader.
The Congress also called for Shah to issue a public apology for his statements, both in Parliament and to the public.
The demonstration, led by State Congress Working President Raman Bhalla and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, saw numerous party workers, leaders, former ministers, and ex-legislators marching from the party headquarters in opposition to Shah’s comments about Ambedkar.
During the protest, participants chanted slogans against Shah and the BJP, reiterating their demand for his resignation.
The police intervened to stop the protesters, resulting in brief clashes and heightened tensions.
Tara Chand addressed reporters, stating, “Shah’s remarks are a direct affront to the Dalit community and to Babasaheb. We will not stand for such statements and issue a warning against future comments of this nature.”
He also criticized the BJP, saying it has developed a pattern of targeting Dalits. (Agencies)
