Srinagar, Feb 27: The Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary, emphasized on Thursday the necessity for citizens to take an active part in combating the drug crisis prevalent in society.
Speaking to reporters in the Budgam district of central Kashmir, he expressed, “I urge the community to engage positively in tackling the drug issue that has infiltrated our homes and society.”
He remarked on the unclear origins of drug trafficking but stressed the urgent need to apprehend traffickers, hoping that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha would intervene and direct the police, under his command, to curb drug trafficking within Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing questions regarding unpaid dues to contractors, the Deputy CM revealed that during his site visits, he encountered substandard materials being utilized.
“We will identify those contractors; those who adhere to quality will receive their payments, while those using inferior materials will not be compensated,” he asserted.
Choudhary announced that he would evaluate the industrial estates, mentioning that numerous irregularities had occurred over the past six years.
“We are committed to providing a supportive environment for our youth to work, and we intend to develop industrial estates,” he affirmed.
Responding to additional queries, he noted, “We have acknowledged the rampant corruption and are determined to rectify it, allowing the public to witness improvements soon.”
Additionally, Choudhary inaugurated the construction of the Chewdara Beerwah bridge, projected to cost approximately Rs 14.15 crore in the Budgam district.
This project, funded by NABARD, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity for commuters and the general public in the region.
During the launch, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to comprehensive and sustained development throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted the remarkable advancements occurring across the Union Territory, signaling the start of a new era of growth and prosperity.
Choudhary instructed the executing bodies to tackle any challenges hindering the project’s progress.
“The work must be finalized on schedule to prevent cost overruns, ensuring the project is delivered to the public promptly,” he emphasized, advocating for a collaborative approach to address any potential challenges.
Later, he engaged with various delegations at the Town Hall, reaffirming the Government’s dedication to expedited development, effective public service, and addressing grievances.
