Jammu, Dec 17: A significant wildfire has erupted in the Uchhad forests of Mendhar Tehsil, located in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
As reported by officials on Tuesday, the fire has spread across approximately 2 kilometers of woodland, causing extensive damage to numerous trees.
Local residents, alongside teams from the Forest and Wildlife Departments, the Army, and the police, promptly initiated efforts to control the blaze.
“The fire was not contained until late into the night due to its extensive reach,” they noted, attributing the increasing frequency of forest fires to a deficit in rainfall.
“The situation is now under control, and teams continue to work diligently to extinguish the flames completely and prevent further spread,” they added.
