One Health Institution for Every 3,500 Residents in J&K
JAMMU, Mar 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Government announced in the Legislative Assembly that there is a health institution for every 3,500 residents, a significant improvement over the national average of one for every 6,000 individuals. In a written response to an unstarred question by MLA Reyaz Ahmed Khan, Health & Medical Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itto shared that this information comes from a report by the Union Ministry of Health & Medical Education.
Additionally, the Minister noted that Jammu and Kashmir currently hosts 554 New Type Primary Health Centers (NTPHCs), with 523 of these being transformed into Health & Wellness Centers as part of a key initiative launched by the Indian Government.
The Minister further stated that there are no current plans for the establishment or enhancement of health centers, although this may be reconsidered after the Finance Department’s austerity measures are lifted and after evaluating any critical deficiencies according to Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).
