SRINAGAR, Dec 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully resolved a theft case by apprehending two suspects and recovering stolen gold items in Srinagar.

On Monday, police reported that on November 22, 2024, a complaint was filed at Police Station Harwan by Muhammad Azhar Gilkar, a resident of Chandpora, Harwan, indicating that unknown thieves had broken into his home and stolen jewelry and other valuables during the night of November 18/19.
A case was subsequently registered under FIR No. 65/2024 at Police Station Harwan, and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, potential suspects were summoned for questioning regarding their involvement in the crime.
Among them, one suspect, Umar Shafi Dar from Ghat, Shalimar, was questioned and, after reviewing the CCTV footage, identified another suspect as Adil Shabir Khan, a resident of Kumar Mohalla Ishber Nishat.
Consequently, Adil was arrested, and it was determined that he was involved in this case as well as in case FIR No. 24/2024 under sections 457 and 380 IPC, and FIR No. 39/2024 under section 331(3), 305 BNS from this Police Station.
Through his disclosures, another suspect was identified as Muhammad Maqbool Dar, a goldsmith from Sethargund, Pulwama, who operated a shop called Al-Maqbool Jewellers at Bakal Complex, Pulwama. He was arrested for receiving the stolen items.
Police recovered approximately 84.02 grams of gold, valued at Rs. 5,71,000, from goldsmith Dar.
