SRINAGAR, Dec 25: In a series of operations, police apprehended five drug peddlers across various locations in the Kashmir Valley, seizing significant quantities of illegal substances.
On Wednesday, law enforcement officials, during routine checks at Ganj Baksh Park in downtown Srinagar, detained two individuals: Khalid Ahmad from Rashan Ghat, Soura, and Basit Ahmad Dar from Usmaniya Colony, Wantpora, Eidgah. A considerable amount of psychotropic substances was discovered in their possession.
Subsequently, a case has been registered as FIR No. 59/2024 at Police Station Nowhatta, with an investigation underway.
In Bandipora district, north Kashmir, police arrested three additional peddlers in separate incidents. During an operation at Papachan bridge, officers apprehended Irshad Ahmad Wani from Hajin and confiscated 47 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from him.
In another operation at Shokbaba Sumlar, a checking party detained Abul Rashid Sheikh of Arin, finding him in possession of 40 grams of a Charas-like substance. Additionally, at Check Chandergeer, officers seized 98 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from a vehicle they stopped for inspection, leading to the arrest of the driver, Mohmad Aqib Wani from Hajin. The vehicle used in the illegal activity has also been confiscated.
All implicated individuals are facing charges under the NDPS Act, as confirmed by the police.
