SRINAGAR, Feb 9: The police have intensified efforts to prevent the misuse of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards by terrorist and criminal groups, with extensive inspections taking place across Jammu and Kashmir, as reported by officials.
On Sunday, police announced that they had conducted thorough checks in several districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba, and Kishtwar, to enforce strict adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations among SIM card vendors.
In the past year, over 30 individuals have been arrested for acquiring SIM cards in their names and subsequently handing them over to terrorists for illegal activities, according to police statements.
These proactive measures are aimed at preventing unauthorized issuance and misuse of SIM cards, thereby safeguarding the communication networks’ security and integrity.
The State Investigation Agency, along with local police units, continues to take decisive actions against such infractions.
The J&K Police remains dedicated to ensuring public safety and will persist in enforcement efforts to stave off the exploitation of communication networks by anti-national and criminal factions.
Authorities have urged citizens to be vigilant regarding any SIM cards registered in their names.
Police have also warned that individuals facilitating the misuse of SIM cards for terrorism or organized crime will face severe legal repercussions. (Agencies)
