SRINAGAR, Feb 11: In a significant crackdown on narco-terrorism, authorities have seized two residential properties belonging to notorious smugglers under the Narco Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The properties of Zakir Hussain Shah from Takiya Bahadarkote have been attached in relation to FIR No. 78/2020 filed at Police Station Karnah, invoking Sections 8/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 7/25 of the I.A. Act, and provisions 13, 16, 18, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), as announced by the police on Tuesday.
“This case involves the seizure of 5 kilograms of heroin, five pistols, and additional firearms/ammunition from his possession,” the police reported, adding that investigations revealed the construction of his house was financed through illicit drug trafficking proceeds.
Similarly, the residential property of Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, a resident of Chitterkote Karnah, has also been attached in connection with FIR No. 38/2022, which includes violations of Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, and Sections 3/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, along with Sections 13, 23, and 39 of the UAPA.
“This case pertains to the recovery of 7 kilograms of heroin and two IEDs. Investigations established that he gained his property through drug money, further contributing to the narco-terrorism network intended to destabilize the region,” officials stated.
“In accordance with the NDPS Act provisions, it has been mandated that these properties cannot be transferred, sold, or otherwise dealt with without prior consent from the competent authority,” the police clarified.
“This action highlights the unwavering commitment of J&K Police to dismantle narco-terror networks that perpetuate crime and terrorism in the area,” they emphasized.
