SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Authorities have successfully resolved several cases of sheep theft by apprehending a trio of rustlers in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to official reports.
On Friday, the police disclosed that residents from Heegund Batpora, Ayend Rawalpora, and Ramnagri had reported numerous theft incidents involving stolen sheep, which had caused significant distress in the community.
In response, FIR No. 03/2025 was filed at Police Station Heerpora, along with FIR Nos. 21/2025, 23/2025, and 31/2025 at Police Station Shopian, leading to the initiation of investigations.
To accelerate the inquiry and recover the stolen animals, police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which questioned several suspects and reviewed CCTV footage from various locations.
The investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspects, resulting in the recovery of numerous stolen sheep.
The suspects have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar from Raiwatan Aasnoor, Kulgam; Nissar Ahmad Malla from Wazir Check, Imam Sahib, Shopian; and Abdul Rehman Mir from Sarmarg Kandimarg, Kulgam.
During questioning, the accused admitted their involvement in multiple thefts, not only within Shopian but also in Bijbehara (Anantnag) and Kakapora (Pulwama).
The prompt action taken by the police has brought much-needed relief to the local community, with ongoing efforts to capture additional gang members still at large, and more confessions anticipated as the investigation progresses.
