Srinagar, Feb 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports (YS&S) launched a 10-day Skiing training course on Sunday, aiming to foster youth talent in the stunning Gurez valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The course opening took place at Darthani Nallah Badwan Gurez, officiated by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gurez alongside the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Gurez. This initiative is set to empower young talent and promote winter sports in the region.
Fifty eager boys and girls will participate in this program, guided by the Director General of Youth Services & Sports (YS&S). The District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Bandipora, supported by the committed physical education staff of zone Gurez, is overseeing the event.
These ongoing efforts by the Department have played a significant role in popularizing skiing in Gurez while also paving the way for the valley to emerge as a prime winter tourism destination.
By providing essential skiing skills, the course intends to nurture a fresh group of athletes and stimulate tourism and economic growth in the area.
During the inauguration, the SDM of Gurez highlighted the positive influence of such programs on both youth and the local economy.
“This skiing course goes beyond just sports; it’s about empowering our youth and establishing Gurez as a winter destination,” he stated.
