JAMMU, Dec 7: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHBAJ) has elected a new governing body, with advocate Nirmal Kotwal taking on the role of president.

Advocate Nirmal Kotwal is now the president of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu, while Advocate Baldev Singh has been elected as vice president. Advocate Pardeep Majotra has assumed the position of general secretary, Advocate Anshu Mahajan will serve as joint secretary, and Advocate Rahul Aggarwal has been appointed cashier of the new association.

The election for the association’s office bearers took place during the day, with results announced late at night due to the time taken for vote counting. A total of 1904 votes were cast out of 2105.
According to Senior Advocate Vikram Sharma, the former president of the Bar Association and acting Returning Officer, Advocate Nirmal Kotwal secured 1031 votes to win the presidential role.
Other candidates included Senior Advocate Abhinav Sharma with 446 votes, Advocate Rohit Sharma with 318 votes, Advocate Pawan Kundal with 61 votes, and Bhavishya Sudan with 38 votes.
Senior Advocate Vikram Sharma noted that Advocate Baldev Singh won the vice presidency with 990 votes, defeating contenders Deepika Mahajan (548 votes), Advocate Daljeet Manhas (327 votes), and Advocate Ashwani Kumar Banotra (29 votes).
Advocate Pardeep Majotra secured the position of general secretary with 749 votes, while other candidates Arjun Singh Pathania obtained 547 votes, Advocate Himanshu Sharma received 443 votes, and Advocate Astham Hussain Bhat garnered 155 votes.
Advocate Anshu Mahajan won the joint secretary position with a total of 1215 votes, whereas Advocate Rahul Sharma received 672 votes.
Advocate Rahul Aggarwal has been elected as cashier of the Bar Association with 1170 votes, competing against Advocate Jameel Choudhary (375 votes) and Advocate Atul Sharma (360 votes).
