JAMMU, Dec 22: To combat the misuse of SIM cards and enforce Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated extensive verification drives targeting SIM card retail outlets in Reasi, Samba, and Rajouri districts.
This effort addresses security threats, including cyber fraud and the potential use of SIM cards for anti-national activities.
During these verification drives, law enforcement thoroughly examined vendor records to ensure compliance with Department of Telecommunications (DoT) standards. In Reasi, police underscored the significance of responsible mobile connection issuance to prevent exploitation by malicious individuals.
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh stressed the serious threat that SIM card misuse poses to national security and public safety, urging full cooperation from vendors during the verification process.
In Samba District, the police performed inspections throughout the area, focusing on validating customer identities and ensuring accurate record-keeping for issued SIM cards.
SSP Samba Virender Singh Manhas reiterated the critical necessity of adhering to KYC norms, warning that legal action would be taken against any violations.
In Rajouri, police expanded their inspections in locations such as Rajouri, Thanmandi, and Kalakot. Vendors were urged to maintain detailed physical records, install CCTV cameras, and comply with all relevant regulations. Rajouri Police warned that failure to comply could result in penalties, license revocation, and legal prosecution.
Moreover, the police have called on the community to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to mobile connections.
