NEW DELHI, Jan 10: JSW Steel, led by Sajjan Jindal, announced on Friday that its consolidated crude steel production increased by 2.3 percent to 7.03 million tonnes (MT) during the third quarter of the current fiscal year.
The company reported a steel output of 6.87 MT for the same period last year, according to a regulatory filing with BSE.
In India, the company’s crude steel production climbed by 3 percent to 6.82 MT, compared to 6.63 MT in the same quarter last year, the report noted.
Capacity utilization at Indian operations, excluding trial runs, reached 91 percent for the third quarter of the current financial year.
“Production and capacity utilization for the quarter were impacted due to scheduled maintenance activities at one of the blast furnaces in Dolvi during October, which returned to normal operations in the first week of November,” the company explained.
JSW Steel’s integrated steel project at Vijayanagar, with a capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), is moving ahead smoothly. The project is managed by JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML), a fully owned subsidiary.
Following the commissioning of a 4.5 MTPA blast furnace, raw material handling system, and sinter plant in the second quarter, JVML successfully commissioned one of the two converters and castors at the Steel Melt Shop in the third quarter.
The production ramp-up at the JVML integrated facility, which has a capacity of 5 MTPA, is anticipated in the fourth quarter.
Upon reaching full capacity, the total crude steel capacity at Vijayanagar will increase to 17.5 MTPA, enhancing JSW Steel’s total Indian crude steel capacity from 29.2 MTPA to 34.2 MTPA.
