KOLKATA, Feb 27: Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory, the wheelset manufacturing division of Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), has secured a significant contract valued at Rs 255 crore from Braithwaite & Co. This contract involves supplying 9,140 wheelsets with an 840 mm diameter designed for 25-ton axle load applications, enhancing Jupiter’s standing as a premier domestic manufacturer of high-performance railway wheelsets, as stated on Thursday.
“We are dedicated to fostering innovation, boosting India’s railway ecosystem, and supporting the country’s transportation growth through an investment of Rs 2500 crore in advanced manufacturing of wheels and axles,” said Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons Limited.
With this latest achievement, the company’s total order backlog has reached Rs 560 crore, highlighting its expanding role in the railway infrastructure sector.
As part of its strategic growth objectives, Jupiter is aiming for Rs 600 crore in revenue from its wheel sector by FY26, nearly doubling its current earnings. To facilitate this goal, the company is undertaking a substantial enhancement of its manufacturing capabilities, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art production facility in Odisha with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore.
The production capacity is set to increase from the present 20,000 forged wheels and axles annually to an impressive 100,000 forged wheelsets per year. Commercial operations for axle production are projected to commence by December 2026, while the entire wheel and axle production unit is slated for completion by December 2027. (PTI)
