Ahmedabad, Feb 18: The Central Government has announced the appointment of Justice Biren Vaishnav as the acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court from February 18 to March 2, during which Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal will be on leave.

The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) recently passed a resolution requesting the transfer of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal to another high court within the “framework of law,” citing concerns regarding a change in the court’s roster.

A high court roster outlines how cases are assigned to various judges within the court.

According to a notification released by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday, it is stated: “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Biren Aniruddha Vaishnav, Judge of Gujarat High Court, to perform the duties of the Chief Justice during the absence of Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, who is on leave from February 18 to March 2.” (Agencies)
