JAMMU, Jan 27: Justice Sanjeev Kumar, a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, has been appointed to lead the selection committee responsible for the appointment of the president and members of the State Consumer Commission, as well as the District Consumer Commissions.
An order from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs confirmed that Justice Sanjeev Kumar will serve as the chairperson of the selection committee for these roles.
In accordance with the regulations governing these appointments, the president and members of both the State Commission and the District Commission will be appointed by the State Government based on the recommendations of the Selection Committee. This committee consists of the Chief Justice of the High Court or an appointed Judge of the High Court, the Secretary in charge of Consumer Affairs from the State Government, and a nominee from the Chief Secretary of the state.
Justice Sanjeev Kumar was designated as the head of the selection panel following his nomination by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
As mandated by the Consumer Protection Act-2019, the State Government must establish a State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, referred to as the State Commission, along with District Commissions. (KNO)
