Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami stressed the importance of all secular forces uniting to advocate for the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
They spoke at CPI(M)’s 13th State Conference held today.
“The people of J&K have faced great injustices, and restoring Statehood is our primary demand,” Prakash Karat asserted, urging PM Modi to fulfill his commitments on this matter.
The CPI(M) accused the Modi government of failing in various aspects and emphasized that their party would persist in highlighting these failures.
Commenting on Indian citizens facing handcuffs and humiliation during deportation from the US, Karat remarked, “Prime Minister Modi should have taken up this issue with US President (Donald Trump) during his recent visit. Additional flights returned from the US after Modi’s trip, yet they experienced the same ordeal. Our citizens do not deserve such treatment; they are not criminals,” he said.
During the conference, veteran CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami reiterated the need for all secular parties to unite in the fight for Statehood restoration in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We call upon all secular parties to unite and support our cause. This issue transcends regional or communal boundaries—it affects the entire populace of J&K and the people of Ladakh, which was separated from us,” he explained.
He urged the people of Jammu to be cautious of the “misleading narratives” propagated by the BJP under the guise of development and nationalism, stating, “It was Maharaja who enacted the state subject laws in 1927 to safeguard land and employment for residents.”
“A nation is defined by its populace, not simply by its landscapes. The citizens of J&K and Ladakh are discontent, facing the highest unemployment rates while the cessation of the darbar move has significantly impacted Jammu’s economy,” the CPI(M) leader concluded.
