LEH, Feb 6: A group of Table Tennis players from Kargil, headed by Nasreen Fatima, President of the Table Tennis Association, Kargil, convened with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at his Secretariat today.
The delegation discussed the growing interest in table tennis among the youth of Kargil, crediting the increase to the initiatives of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh. The department has supplied crucial facilities, including table tennis boards, to several schools in the district. Many players from Kargil have also represented Ladakh at national competitions, bringing recognition to the region.
During their discussion, the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining several key requests, such as hiring a professional table tennis coach and providing essential sports gear, including racquets, TT balls, sneakers, wristbands, and training apparel. They also urged for a dedicated Table Tennis Court/Hall equipped with necessary amenities like tables, lockers, and support staff.
The Lieutenant Governor responded positively and directed the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Secretary of Youth Services and Sports to train Physical Education Teachers and Rehbar-e-Khel instructors in various sports disciplines. The LG also stressed the importance of establishing sports federations for different games to enhance sports infrastructure and development in Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, Dr. L. Franklin, and OSD for Youth Services and Sports, Mohd Ali Tak.
