OTTAWA, Jan 17: Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya, hailing from Karnataka, has officially announced his bid to become the next Prime Minister of Canada.
In an unprecedented move, Arya addressed the Canadian Parliament in Kannada, his mother tongue, marking a moment of pride for the global Kannadiga community.
Reflecting on his heritage, Arya stated, “It is a proud day for approximately 50 million Kannadigas that a son of Shira taluk in Tumkur district has been elected to the Canadian Parliament and is speaking in Kannada in such an esteemed setting.”
Arya fondly recalled the vibrant cultural events organized by the Kannada community in Canada, such as the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations hosted in the Canadian Parliament in 2018.
He honored the literary legacy of Karnataka by quoting lines from Rashtrakavi Kuvempu and concluded with the poignant phrase, “May all be, may all be, may you always be Kannada,” resonating deeply with the worldwide Kannada populace.
